Lanius excubitor
A very rare winter visitor.
This species is far from rare in the winter on the northern and eastern coasts of England, and, like many other birds visiting this kingdom from the east, very rarely penetrates so far to the west as to reach the south-western corner of Wales. Indeed, the only county example we know of is one we have been informed of by Mr. H. Mathias, that was killed some years ago by the late Rev. VV. VVebb-Bowen, of Camrose, at VVolfsdale in that parish. This is the specimen that was in the collection of Mr. R. J. Ackland, at Boulston.
