Glareola pratincola

A very rare accidental visitor from the south.

It is the lucky fate of the Pratincole when it wanders northwards to the British Isles to be more often seen only than to be secured. This rare bird is included in Mr. Mathias' list on the strength of one that was seen several times by Mr. Bowen at Llanstinan many years ago. Mr. Bowen pursued the bird for some time, and had one unsuccessful shot at it. Mr. Mathias went to Llanstinan on purpose to search for it, but was not fortunate enough to see it.
