Night Heron (Black-crowned) - 2016

Scarce - 21 records, 6 since 2000 - these were:

In 2005 - one at Freshwater West in 16th April.

In 2006 - single adults at Dreen Hill at the end of March 2006, Upper Swanswell, Broadhaven (North) 20th March 2006 and at Esso on 21st March 2006.

In 2008 - One at Sealyham on 15th May.

In 2013 - An adult at the Ritec, Tenby on 25th May.

In 2019 - Two adults and an immature seen flying over Skokholm 30th May

Surf Scoter - 2010 onwards

Melanitta perspicillata  Rare visitor.

Previous records listed in Surf Scoter - 1994 and in Surf Scoter 2007

2010 - An adult female was at Fishguard Harbour from 19th to 23rd Nov (JA, KRM). Accepted by WRP.

2012 - A single female, often very close in, was found at Broad Haven (N) on 22nd Dec and remained into 2013 (DJA). Accepted by WRP.

2013 - A first winter female was present at Broad Haven (N) from Dec. 2012 was present until 20th Mar. at least (DJA et al). Accepted WRP

2014 - Male off Amroth 12th Jan (DJA). Accepted by WRP.

Rare, only 9 records since 2000.

Bea-eater - 1993 to 2014

1993

One Skomer 25th May (KJSD, SJS) and perhaps the same bird at St Nicholas 25th May (MC).  These may also be the same bird as seen in Anglesey and Ceredigion in May and June.

1996

One seen at Ramsey around the farmhouse on 12th June (IDB).

1997

One on the morning of 13th May on Skokholm, the first record for the island,. It proceeded to devour numerous bumble-bees caught in brief sorties made from it's elder bush or fence-wire perches (GT). May have been the same bird as seen a few days later on the Great Orme in Caernarfonshire

1999

One at Maengwyn Farm (near Rosebush) 20th June. (JS).

2003

One Skomer, 1st May. (MO, CJ). Another Skokholm and Marloes Mere on 8th June, presumed to be the same bird (GT, GN, CR et al).

2004

One at Dale on 9th May (2004 Welsh Bird Report. Vol. 4. No. 4).

2007

One at Treleyddn Farm, near St Davids, on 2nd May (PJG et al).

2008

Two records, both singles. The first at Dinas Cross on 27th April (JP Daniels); the second on Ramsey on 24th June, where the bird sat on the Waterings exclosure for 40 minutes before flying off high towards the mainland (per Greg Morgan).

2011

Two flew over Pen Anglas on 22nd April (SEB) (thought to be the same as the two seen at Aberporth a few days later), and a single was seen on Skomer on 14th June (DB) - the 3rd island record - presumed to be the same one seen at Gower later the same day.

2012

One at Strumble Head on 19th May (RS).

2014

Three were seen passing over St. David’s Head on 17th May (KYP, MYP).

Taiga Bean Goose - all records

Anser fabilis

1997 - Five at Trefaiddan, St Davids on 27 December.

2006 - One of the race fabalis (Taiga Bean Goose) at Skomer on 2nd November. It flew south, calling, low over the Central Fields at first light. (JGB).

Aquatic Warbler - 1995 and 2000

1995

Two were trapped and ringed at Teif Marshes, 4th and 19th August 1995 (J Gr, DKR). The first mainland record for the county.

2000

One by West Pond, Skomer 22nd September (MJP et al). The fourth Island record.
