Spotted Sandpiper - 2016 Skokholm

Actitis macularius Vagrant

A summer plumaged bird was found above the northern cliffs of the Neck on 12th July (PB). Sadly it soon dropped down to the spray zone and could not be relocated. This record was accepted by the British Birds Rarities Committee as the second for Pembrokeshire, following a juvenile at Bosherston Pools between 5th October and 2nd November 1980, and the 12th for Wales.

Spotted Sandpiper - 1994

Rare visitor

A bird at Bosherston Pools from 5 October to 2 November 1980 (J.W.Donovan et al) was difficult to locate as it disappeared beneath overhanging tree roots while picking its way along the shore.
