Stone Curlew - 1894

Oedicnemus scolopax

A winter visitor ; very rare ; only one occurrence known to us.

The Stone Curlew is a common summer visitor to the eastern counties, to Salisbury Plain, &c, but is only known in the south-west as an occasional straggler in the winter months. One was shot by Mr. Browne Edwardes near St. David's in January, 1891, and recorded at the time in a local paper.
