Sanderling - 1894

Calidris arenaria
An autumn visitor; scarce; also sometimes seen on its passage north in the spring.
The Sanderling is occasionally to be seen on the sands in September in small flocks, and one or two are sometimes to be found in company with the Dunlin and Ring-Plovers. Sir Hugh Owen has shot it on the sands at Goodwick. It has been seen on the Newgale sands, where a female was shot on June ist, 1857, which, Mr. Tracy states, had the ovaries well developed.
