British Chaffinch - 1949 status

Fringilla coelebs gengleri

Abundant flocks arrive in October, coming down over Cardigan Bay from the north-west; tens of thousands then strike the northern and western coasts of the county.  Ringed individuals trapped in Pembrokeshire in winter have been recovered subsequently in Belgium.  It is, there, probable that these winter flocks include representatives of the Continental race F.c.coelebs.
