Hen Harrier: 1980s winter atlas

 

The BTO winter atlas showed that Hen Harriers were present in a third of Pembrokeshire 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 3 birds recorded per day.

Snipe - 1980s winter atlas

The BTO winter atlas showed that Snipes were present in most 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 37 birds, up to 200 were recorded in some squares in the county.

Nuthatch - 1980s winter atlas

 

The BTO winter atlas showed that Nuthatches were present in most 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 4-7 birds.

However, it should be noted that the figures show a high correlation with the number of recording cards returned (therefore related to recording effort) for each 10km square.

Moorhen - 1980s winter atlas

The BTO winter atlas showed that Moorhens were present in the majority of 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 38 birds seen in a day.

Mistle Thrush - 1980s winter atlas

 

The BTO winter atlas showed that Mistle Thrushes were present in the majority of 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

 

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 15 birds seen in a day.

Merlin - 1980s winter atlas

The BTO winter atlas showed that Merlins were present in the majority of 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents 2 birds seen in a day. The map plot clearly indicates this species ability to utilise all kinds of open habitat.

The BTO winter atlas showed that Meadow Pipits were present in the majority of 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

 

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 44 birds.

Mallard - 1980s winter atlas

 

The BTO winter atlas showed that Mallards were present in most 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

 

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 239 birds both being squares containing estuaries.

Magpie - 1980s winter atlas

 

The BTO winter atlas showed that Magpies were present in most 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

 

The darker the colour, the higher the relative total count for each 10km square.  The darkest blue represents over 44 birds. Communal roosts were included in the plot.

The BTO winter atlas showed that Long-tailed Ducks were present in several coastal and estuarine 10km squares during the winters of 1981-82, 1982-82 and 1983-84.

 

The coloured 10km squares represent 1-2 birds seen in a day.
