Tringa erythropus
Mathew describes it as "an autumn visitor; rare". Three were received at the Cardiff Museum from Tenby in 1896. One seen Dale, 25 aug 1944 (B.Birds XXXVIII, 139). Two Dale 7 Sept 1947 (T.A.Warren-Davies). One Ramsey, 21-25 Aug 1948 (J.Davies)

Tringa totanus britannica
Mathew described it as an autumn visitor, scarcer than formerly. It has never been proved to breed in spate of a general increase in the last fifty years. Suspected breeding near St Davids, June 1932 (B.Birds XXXVI, 202) and 1948 (J.F.). Abundant visitor Milford Haven in winter.

Tringa ochropus
Mathew describes it as a fairly common autumn visitor, occasionally staying the winter. One killed St Davids, 8 Aug 1911 (Bertram Lloyd). One seen River Alan, 3 Sept 1930 (D.L.Lack) One seen near Pembroke, 5 and 7 July, 1936 by B.L. who considered it a regular autumn passage migrant. Recorded Skokholm: 1 Oct 1946, 28 July, 8 and 19 Aug 1947

Actitis hypoleucos
Mathew described it a summer visitor abundant on brooks "near Maenchlogog" There is, however, no evidence so far that it has bred in the county. On the coasts and the island a passage migrant in small numbers

Philomachus pugnax
Mathew knew of only one, obtained "many years ago" near Pembroke. One shot St Davids 8 Aug 1912 (Bertram Lloyd). Three seen Trefeiddan, 20-21 Sept 1930 (D.L.Lack) A male at Dale 19 oct 1947 (T.A.Warren-Davies). Recorded on several occasions Skokholm, 1936-1939 and 1947-48.

Autumn and occasional spring passage migrant, especially in Milford Haven. Recorded Skokholm twice. One in full breeding plumage, Newport, 7 June, 1926 (Bertram Lloyd)

Calidris maritima maritima
"An autumn visitor; not uncommon" - Mathew. Tracy called is rather scarce, but Dix considered "about as numerous as the Knot". It is found all the year round along the rocky coast, even in summer, and is often very tame; generally singly or in small numbers at midsummer, and more numerous in winter.

Calidris minuta
"Occasional autumn visitor, rare" according to Mathew. This is true to-day. It has been recorded 1988, 1903, 1911, 1928, 1930, 1932, 1933 (Skokholm 11 Sept), and 13 Jan 1939 (Goodwick, nine birds seen by Bertram Lloyd); all autumn and winter records.
