Nightjar - 1990 onwards

Caprimulgus europaeus - Former breeder now occasional passage migrant.

1990 - One Skomer 4 Sept

1992 - One Waterwynch, 17 June, one Lower Gwaun Valley during the summer.

1993 - Singles Skokholm 18 May, Mathry 24 May, Porthclais 26 May and Skomer 20 Sept.

1994 - A pair at Velindre Farchog in May.

1996 - 2 calling and wing clapping Upton 30 Apr (PS).

1997 - One calling Sutton 15 May (KPG).

1998 - One nr Goodwick 23 May (CB).

1999 - One Mynydd Morfa 30 Apr (AN).

2003 - Singles Rhodiad y Brenin 5 June and Treleddyd Fawr 7 June (J.B)

2005 - Female Skomer 25 May first for the island since 1993 (JGB). Male singing nr Bwlch y groes 4 June (AP) but not heard subsequently.

2009 - Single Ratford Bridge on 6th July (TA).

2012 - One on Skomer on 5th May (DB).

2016 - A single seen on Skomer on 15th May was the only record

2018 - Single St David’s Head on 27th May was the only record

Great Spotted Cuckoo - 2014

2009: first county record at Trefeiddan, St. David’s on 10th Mar 2009.
2014: A first year bird at Penally Golf Course 11th - 28th March, accepted by BBRC.
There have been only two other records in Wales, at Plas Penhelig, Aberdovey, Meirionydd in 1956 and at
Newborough, Anglesey in 1960.

Spotted Sandpiper - 2016 Skokholm

Actitis macularius Vagrant

A summer plumaged bird was found above the northern cliffs of the Neck on 12th July (PB). Sadly it soon dropped down to the spray zone and could not be relocated. This record was accepted by the British Birds Rarities Committee as the second for Pembrokeshire, following a juvenile at Bosherston Pools between 5th October and 2nd November 1980, and the 12th for Wales.

Pectoral Sandpiper - 1994 onwards

Calidris melanotos - Scarce passage migrant

1994 - A juv visited North Pond, Skokholm, 22 Aug (MB et. al).

1998 - Single Esso 3 Oct (JWD)

2003 -Part of a large influx into the British Isles

2005 - Single. Bosherston Pools 25 — 28 Aug (SHL et al)

2009 - In spring an adult was found at Llangloffan Fen 6-7 June (RD, AR) and in autumn a juvenile on Dale Airfield 10 to 12 Sept (PKG). Both accepted by WRP.

2010 - A juvenile was photographed at Castlemartin Range on 4th Sept (PH). Accepted WRP.

2011 - The only accepted record was of two on Skokholm, 13th – 14th May, with one remaining on the 15th (JGilham). Accepted WRP.

2012 - Three different individuals on Skokholm in the autumn, during the period 16th Sept – 21st (one may have been present since August) (MYP, M. Hipkin).

2013 - One was at Skokholm on 15th May (J. Moore). Accepted WRP.

2017 -  One on Skokholm on 30th Aug (RL, RB et al). Accepted by WRP.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper - 1995 onwards

Tryngites subruficollis - Rare American visitor.

1996 - A typically confiding juv Dale Airfield 6-21 Sept (KJSD et al)

2000 - One, Castle Martin ranges 23 Sept (PRH et al).

2010 - A juvenile on Dale Airfield on 2nd - 3rd Oct (DJA).  Accepted WRP. Photo opposite by DJ Astins.

2011 - As in other places in the SW of the UK, an influx in September, two at Stackpole 21st (DJ Killick), three at Dale Airfield 23rd – 24th (K. Meatyard et al) and two nearby at Kete 28th – 30th (BS et al). All accepted by WRP.

2016 - A juv on Dale Airfield 10th Sept (DJA, JWM). Accepted WRP.

2018 - Three Dale Airfield 22nd – 25th Sept (IS et al) and one on Skokholm 27th Sept (RB et al) photo below. All accepted by WRP

Kentish Plover - 1995 onwards

Charadrius alexandrinus - Vagrant

1998 - One, Nevern Estuary, 13-14 May (MT)

2000 - Single, male, Newgale 25 Apr (SW et al)

2001 - Single, male, Angle Bay, 14 Apr ( RH)

2007 - A male, at the Patch, Teifi Estuary, Ceredigion on 25th May was seen briefly on the Pembrokeshire side of the estuary (RD)

American Golden Plover - 2016

One at Angle Bay 29th April 2016.

"The American Golden Plover, which is still in winter plumage, was feeding and roosting on the spit in Angle Harbour from at least 13:00 to 13:45, and was sat about halfway along the spit on the seaward side with it's head under its wing when I left it".  Posted by Clive H on the sightings blog.

The bird was seen and photographed by a number of people, and was still there at 17:00

Burhinus oedicnemus Rare visitor.

Very scarce - four previous records.

2003 - One, Skokholm 18 July (TT) 

2019 - One Skokholm 16 July

NB A first year bird on the Teifi Estuary on 13 May 1997 now gets a Pembrokeshire mention due to a change in the county boundary.
